Centre for Gender Studies

The Centre for Gender Studies (ZfG) was founded in 2009 to expand women and gender studies within the areas of musicology and theatre studies at the University for Music and Performing Arts Graz. Crossing institutes, teaching and research in musicology and theatre studies in regard to women and gender studies are initialised and coordinated. National and international relationships to institutions and organisations, as well as to scholars and artistic experts, are fostered. We support women and gender research, as well as work in diversity in the areas of music, musicology, theatre and theatre studies.

Projects that touch upon the current area of gender research, which next to women´s research for example, also includes questions regarding the construction of masculinity and femininity, the gender specific selection of instruments, or gendered listening habits will be supported. The Centre for Gender Studies provides financial assistance to students in the form of the Gender Studies Prize for final dissertations and research projects on the one hand, and the Dissertation Scholarship for artistic or scholarly projects on the Doctoral school of the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz on the other.

Lastly, we present and support ongoing scholarly and artistic events and the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz as well as cooperations which grapple with themes related to women and gender studies.
